Oak Pollen Guide (1970)

Oak (Quercus) is one of the heaviest spring tree-pollen producers in North America. Real microscope counts, peak timing, and what to do about it.

When is oak pollen season?

Oak pollen peaks from late March through May across most of the US, with regional variation by climate zone. In the South, peak can begin as early as February; in the Northeast it often runs into early June.

Why oak pollen is brutal

Oak trees produce enormous catkin-loads of small (~30µm), wind-borne grains. A single mature oak can release tens of millions of grains in a season, and oak pollen is highly allergenic.
